A group of 26 UPMC employees traveled to World Vision’s Pittsburgh headquarters this week to assemble hygiene kits for victims of Hurricane Sandy. UPMC also donated funding for the kits, which provide basic health and personal care supplies for those affected by natural disasters.
World Vision is a global Christian organization dedicated to humanitarian work serving nearly 100 million people in more than 100 countries. The group aims to empower children, families, and communities to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. In addition, it provides supplies and support for disaster relief efforts in the U.S. and around the world.
The organization’s Gifts-in-Kind Distribution Center in Pittsburgh was established in April of 1993, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation, and to date has shipped more than 7 million pounds of items to the neediest victims of natural and man-made upheaval.
